Serious moonlight why rated r

Shelly before her awful murder. Serious Moonlight could easily have been staged as a play — only four main characters, one set, lots and lots and lots of dialogue and a nice separation among the acts. That said, the film could have been improved by making it less of a play by adding more action, faster pacing and a variety of sets and locations.

View All Critic Reviews Oct 29, Great work from the cast, Hutton spends most of the film duct-taped to a toilet but is up to the big challenge of expressing his character's turbulent emotions and regrets without physical action.

And Meg Ryan naturally radiates, as a big fan it's great to see her in the movies again! Together they make a couple you really believe has seen a lot of ups and downs, thanks to an intelligent script brimming with a penetrating perception of marriage.

In addition there's Kristen Bell as Hutton's impish mistress which leads to comical confrontations when she too is detained by crook Justin Long, who manages to be both gregarious and threatening. Only the curiously unnecessary final street scene falls flat - or did I miss something? Bad reviews here, but I suggest that if you like a couple of the stars you should give it a chance. Doctor S Super Reviewer. Feb 17, While watching this film, I kept thinking of French Kiss.

Both Hutton and Ryan were in that film. This film made me think of, what would have happened if French Kiss ended with Ryan and Hutton getting back together. Both Ryan and Hutton have a great on screen chemistry in any film that they do.

Top review. A twisted Devito-like comedy. If you enjoy films like "War of the Roses", you should like this one. Basically this is a love-triangle story about a man Tim Hutton whose planning on leaving his wife Meg Ryan of 14 years for a much younger woman Kristin Bell. The wife doesn't respond well and much inappropriate behavior follows. Not much depth is written into these people but Ryan and Hutton do a rather spectacular job with their roles anyway. Special notice should be given to Justin Long's cameo as a thug.

He seems to relish his small 'against type-cast' role. Unfortunately, Kristin Bell bores us with her very two-dimensional performance. The plot tidies itself up rather too quickly from this twisted story, but at least we're not left with an overly long film. And the first hour is one of the darkest hours of film I've ever seen--in a good way. If you've seen Adrienne Shelly's the writer other film, "Waitress", you'll be familiar with the style of this film.

However, Cheryl Hines--who took over for Shelly after her untimely death--does a commendable job. I'm saddened to realize this will be the last work we see from the mind of Adrienne Shelly. As it stands, it's not a bad way to be remembered. There's an underlying darkness to the premise that the filmmakers aren't willing to delve into.

As despicable as Ian Hutton is, there's also something innately repulsive about Louise's Ryan sense of entitlement that the film never adequately addresses, and her desperation is not as amusing as it's meant to be.

It's indicative of the film's problems that when the young girlfriend, Sara Bell , shows up, she's a cartoon, because while Bell is certainly capable of bringing depth to such a character, Sara has to remain a straw [wo]man for us to maintain any interest in the main couple working things out. Long's character, meanwhile, is pure contrivance.
